Why the "Doom" for Rezoom?

Why the "Doom" for Rezoom?

I came across this site during my research before cataract surgery.  I spent many hours reading and learning as much as I could about IOL's and the pros and cons of each one.  And while most sites did have some negatives about the ReZoom IOL, this site had the most negative reports even rhyming it with Doom.

I am now two weeks past surgery in my right non-dominant eye which has a Tecnis Multi-focal and one week past surgery in my dominant left eye which has a Rezoom Multi-focal.  I also had LRI's in both eyes to correct astigmatism of around 1.5.

I can't be more pleased with how things have turned out.  I made the decision to have different IOL's implanted based on my research and consultation with my Doctor.  There are several studies in which a Tecnis/ReZoom or ReStor/ReZoom combination yields the best patient satisfaction.

Do I see Halos at night?  Sure.  But I covering each eye, they are about the same and while noticeable, they certainly do not rise to the level of bothersome.  I was 20/15 distance the day after my second surgery and 20/25 near while still dilated in my left eye.  I was -6.5 in my right eye and -5.75 in my left and wore contacts.  I can say that I have not seen this well in years at distance.

My near vision is extremely functional.  I will probably want readers for computer or book reading, but you can hand me something to read and I can read it without much problem.  I worked a swim meet Monday night and was able to watch the swims and read the Heat Sheet without any issues at all.

As for the ReZoom, I do notice what I would call flickers.  Almost like there is a hair in front of my eye reflecting light.  They tend to be partial circles of light.  The first couple of days I noticed them mostly with bright white lights, but now it is mainly fluorescent lights that cause them and I am noticing them much less today than 3-4 days ago.  So maybe I am adapting.

Now, I know my experience might not mimic others and I can't see through their eyes to see what they are experiencing.  It might be my age and I am relatively young (45) and my Doctor says I am very accommodating in that I was able to wear glasses with one blank lens and one IOL and not see double.  So that could be part of it.

But I just wanted to share my experience up to this point.  Feel free to ask me any questions.

There is a reason that ReZoom use has dropped off almost off the map. There is a reason that the company that makes ReZoom bought Tecnis and spends almost all their advertising money on Technis and not ReZoom. When Dr. kutryb and I investigated problems on this website the ReZoom was by far the most troublesome IOL (the Crystalens was the lowest).

I've been to surgical meetings when there were over a 100 surgeons in the audience and when given their choice of an IOL in their own eyes (Crystalens, ReStor, ReZoom) not a single surgeon chose ReZoom. In my consultative practice when patients complain of IOLs the most common cause is ReZoom.

I'm glad you're doing well. I stand by my advice to choose a different IOL for most people. The world would be a better place in my opinion without ReZoom IOLs.
