Wife's eye problems

Posted by Bill on August 10, 1999 at 18:24:38
My wife started a job as a customer service rep 1 1/2 years ago, last June she got a bad headache, it was time for new glasses.  She also has had a prism for double vision since she was 20 (she's 32 now) as a result of injuries in an auto accident.  Last January she developed another headache, her double vision had changed again.  In March she had to leave her job because she could no longer work on a computer without her headache becoming extremely acute.  She has been sent to the emergency room three times because of the pain.  We have been to numerous doctors and she had numerous medicines, but the headache is still there, she can function with the meds she is on now, but it still flares up so bad that all she can do is sleep.  Her vision has changed five times since last June.  Cat scans and MRIs have found nothing. University of Iowa optho didn't find any structural problems with her eyes themselves, now her doctor is sending her back to the university to have them check the muscles. Any suggestions ? Thank you in advance, Bill

This sounds more like a neurologic problem rather than a primary eye problem.  Given the intensity of the headache this may represent a migraine.  There are very good ophthalmologists at Univ of Iowa.  In particular she may want to see Stanley Thompson, MD who is a neuro-ophthalmologist.
