Working at computer all day with glasses

I work at the computer all day long, and am an eye-glass wearer. Used to wear contacts but switched back to glasses because my eyes were feeling dry.

My current prescription is a -3.00 in both eyes, and I can see close reasonably fine, but need glasses for distance.
Problem is my glasses are old and are a -2.00 so I'm worried that when I upgrade my glasses to a -3.00 it will be too strong.  When I work at the computer I feel more comfortable wearing my glasses than not wearing them, and feel like that puts less strain on my eyes.

Trying to understand if the -3.00's are going to overstrain my eyes and i'll need a weaker pair when I work at the computer, or will the -3.00 not be too much of a difference?

Anyone work at the computer all day long, near sighted, and wear glasses?  Can you share your experience or if there is a doctor out there can you share your knowledge?

I wanted to add that I never knew there was such a thing as computer glasses, and progressive contact lenses.  Maybe these are the answer?
