Worried about eyes

by sara127, Oct 04, 2008 07:00PM
I am 19 years old.  About 1 month ago I started seeing floaters and flashes.  I went to my eye doctor immediately and was told my eyes were fine.  He did a very detailed exam, even dilating my eyes.  However, about a week ago I started to see a faint blue line only in the darkness.  So, I went to see a 2nd eye doctor a  couple of days ago at a very good hospital.  He did a very detailed exam as well and told me my eyes were completely fine.  No diagnosis of anything, no tears, no holes, nothing.  He told me to not worry about it and that my eyes are healthy.  He said RD is rare and sometimes these floaters and flashes will fade over a couple of months.   He did obivously inform me of signs and symtoms of RD and if I experience them, then come back immediately.  He did make a follow-up appoinment with a retinal specialist in 6 weeks.  There is NO family history of retinal detachment and no diabetics either.  I am slighting nearsightness.  My prescription is very low.  Only -0.75 in left eye and -1.50 in right eye. I am always worried about RD because I see these things.  Is there any reason to be worried over this?   Is the doctor making a follow up appointment with a retinal specialist mean anything bad?

I think it unlikely that you have anything to worry about with your eyes. I think the follow up exam was an extra precaution to reassure you.
