YAG Surgery

After my cataract surgery in both eyes in Feb. it was decided by my dr. that because of my somewhat blurry vision and after some more testing that I need the YAG surgery.  My question is that many years ago I had a torn retina in the right eye which was repaired by laser by a retina specialist.  Should I visit him again before having the YAG surgery?

The YAG procedure does slightly increase the risk of retinal detachment, so given your previous retinal procedure it wouldn't be a bad ideal to consult your retinal specialist.

A Yag rarely causes a retinal tear.  It would be better to see the retinal surgeon after the yag if you are concerned.  There is a higher chance of retinal detachments with cataract surgery.  We do about 3 million cataract surgeries in the US per year.  DO YOU THINK they should all get a retinal exam before a cataract surgery?
