air puff test

air puff test

I am 39 years old white female and had an eye exam today to get glasses for driving.  I am near-sighted. I didn't have my eyes dilated but the doctor said the eyes looked strong and she didn't see any problems.  Towards the end of the exam she gave me an air puff test.  She said I had a assymetrical reading and I should come back for a second test another time.  What does assymetrical mean?  Is that different that high eye pressure?

I don't have any family history with glaucoma or have had any eye injuries.  I am panicking though thinking about what this reading could mean.  She told me it wasn't an emergency but to either get a second air puff test of just get my eyes dilated in the next 2 to 3 months. From what she could see my eyes looked strong and my periphal vision was fine.   My anxiety has taken over though and I am worried I  have glaucoma and could go blind.

Also, can medications affect eye pressure?  Prior to the test I had taken some naproxen pills for menstrual cramps.
Any comments to calm me down would be appreciated!!

thanks!!
Kim

The air puff test is a primitive method of measuring pressure inside the eye.  I suggest, if you are worried, that you seen an Eye-MD ophthalmologist, who will have 2 or 3 much more updated methods of measuring the pressure inside the eye.
