anyone heard of Lucentis?

by Debby317, Nov 19, 2007 11:37AM
My mother has AMD. I just got a thing in the mail about Lucentis. I was wondering if anyone has or knows anyone who takes this?
Thanks for any info.

Lucentis only works for wet AMD and only for those with recent and limited bleeding.  Most of the medical profession, me included, were very much upset with the manufacturer's direct mailing to the public.

Hi,

My mother is diagnosed for Wet AMD based on initial observation/test. A detailed test will be conducted in a week's time and will let us know the future course of action. The doctors feels, it will be difficult to get back the vision for one of the eyr (left) which is fully affected and as the other eye (right) is just getting affected, treatment can be provided to prevent further de-generation. He also mentioned there is a risk of re-lapse of this in future.

I would like to seek some help from the forum on the following:

1) Is there any way the sight for the left eye be restored. Are there any instances of the lost sight being restored in wet AMD? If so, what was the treatment given?
2) Is there any treatment to prevent re-lapse for the right eye before treatment
3) What questions do I need to ask the doctor before we go ahead with the treatment.

Thanks,

Ganesh
ps: The treatment will be given in Bangalore, India.

1. This can only be determined by an Eye MD who can look at the eye. Genreally it is not possible to restore vision lost to wet ARMD.
2. Don't smoke which increases the risk of wet arms.
3. Explain procedure, explain alternative treatments, explain risks and complications.

Thanks John,

Once I get the details of the procedure/alternatives, I'll post the same.

Thanks,

Ganesh.
