baby won't open eyes

My one month old niece (born january 8, 2009), won't open her eyes.  She opened one eye for the first time at eight days, and she finally opened both eyes at 20 days or so.  But that doen't happen very often, she still opens only one eye.

Start with your pediatrician, the eyes need to be forced open with an instrument (Speculum) for a look-see. If appropriate a referall to an pediatric ophthalmologist is indicated.
