Get a second opinion. Possible causes: displaced IOL, dysphotopsia from IOL especially if its a multifocal IOL.  Find an Eye MD at www.aao.org

Thank you Dr. Hagan for your prompt reple to the mysterious 'black lines' I see in
my eyes...Since I have the lines in both eyes, I doubt if it is a displaced IOL.  My
lens are the multifocal IOL's & your mention of dysphotopsia, which I immediately ran
to look up - did give me some sense of understanding this more.  However, I will take
your kind advice & get a second opinion, since this is going on over a year....perhaps
it will slowly diappear
I remain hopeful

thanks again

I have also dark shadows. It is called Negative Dysphotopsia (you can search in google).
Are your implants Christalens from B&L?

There is a thread I have started: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Eye-Care/Negative-Dysphotopsia-with-Crystalens-HD/show/928766

I am now engaged with some University of Kansas ophthalmologists to determine how often people with negative dysphotopsia (temporal darkness) are given full neurosurgical work-ups only to find the cause is the IOL. It is apparently common and not reconized.

I just had surgery last week and have the same thing.  I am very upset because I'm an artist and I know this will continue to bother me if it doesn't go away.  Another doctor did the other eye and I had different problems with that (the vision was corrected to be extremely nearsighted) so I was careful to do a lot of research and my doctor had agreed to put in a new type of Technis lens with flat edges.  Instead he gave me a new Bausch and Lomb Akreos that we had never discussed.  He told me "They're the same thing" and I feel put off by this reply.  If they are made by two different companies, how can they be the "same thing"?  I am really hoping that this will go away and would be very happy to hear from anyone who had this problem and saw it resolved.

Is there any way to remove the IOL and change it if this doesn't go away?
