black squiggles and light flashes in the dark

I have been seeing black squiggles during the daytime and small white flashes when I blink my left eye in the dark for 5 days.  I am a type 2 diabetic, taking Janumet 50mg/1000mg, morning fasting of 100.   I am 59 have had the beginnings of cataracts for several years.  I last saw my ophthamologist 4 months ago and was told everything is fine.  Thank you.

It sounds like you are having "flashers and floaters".  This is due to traction on the retina, not due to the diabetes.  You should be re-evaluated by your eye doctor as you could be developing a (normal) event called a posterior vitreous detachment.  A PVD can sometimes cause holes or tears in the retina and should be monitored until the process is complete.
