brown patch on the sclera

by pc272, Jan 19, 2008 10:04AM
hello,
i'm 23 and since young i have a brown colour patch on the sclera of my left eye that is very near the iris, in fact it is just beside it , i was told that it is actually a moles. is this true? do i need to monitor it and is there any way to remove it?
thank you.

I would have to look at it to tell you for sure. Most spots on the sclera are not moles but 'nevus" which are more like freckles. The likelihood of it turning in to a malignancy is very very but if it changes in shape and size see and Eye MD ophthalmologist.

Generally removal is not indicated, nor covered by insurance.
