can't read without bright sunlight after Crystal lense

Hello, I had Crystalens about a year ago and now, I have alot of problems reading without really bright sunlight.  I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience?  My doctor says my Crystalens has shifted and I need to have YAG  that will be on a different side of the eye than normally performed.  Doctor would like to perform YAG on both eyes, not just the one with the shifted lens.  I don't understand why I can't just have my lens replaced, but my doctor has advised against it.  I am concerned because it seems like after the YAG I can't have my lens replaced, whereas before such I can.  I am also really worried that as I am a diabetic I may have more chance for RD after YAG.  I was really happy with my Crystalens initially, but then it didn't seem to return to me my night vision.  Also, can anyone tell me how soon after having Crystalens implanted can the eye be dilated without causing it harm?  Initially I was told it was best to wait at least one month, which my doctor did for one eye.  Then, the technician insisted on dilating my other eye just one week post-op.  Well, any help is really welcome, it's so nice to find such a great wealth of information and nice people sharing it on one board.  Thanks much.

It sure wouldn't hurt for you to get a second opinion from an experienced surgeon.  Have you considered this?

THe yag is much easier and safer than a IOL exhcange and they are done for different reasons. Diabetes doe not increase the risk of RD after Yag,  An IOL can be exchanged after yag capsulotomy its just more difficulty and somewhat increased risk. yes dilating the eye that soon is okay.

It is normal to experience some difficulty reading after a crystalens.  Often, patients need to use some effort which can be learned with practice to read and there are eye exercises to perform.  It is important to discuss with your doctor your concerns.  The eye can be dilated after the crystalens immediately.  In fact, we used to keep patients eye dilated for two weeks after crystalens implantation when the crystalens was first FDA approved.  Please speak with your doctor and get your questions answered.  If you do not get understand and do not feel comfortable, then seek out the care of another eyeMD who performs the crystalens.  You can find this person on the www by looking up AAO.org and eyeonics.com web sites and cross referencing.  I hope this answers your questions.
