What are the pros and cons of the tecnis multifocal aol, by abbott medical optics?

General advice on multifocal IOLs:  1) before you get caught up in deciding which IOL you want, first decide whether you are the right kind of person to have a multifocal IOL at all, and 2) avoid surgeons who aggressively promote them and who don't first question you about your work, your hobbies, and your driving habits.

Probrably the same pros and cons of all multifocal iols.  Search this forum and read all the complaints.  Some may say happy mulitfocal receipients don't post on forums such as this.  It may be true but to my knowledge there is no other place to go for honest information on these iols.  Certainly not your opthamologist.

The Tecnis multifocal is very similar to ReStor.  Disadvantages:  Don't expect the same sharp vision that you would get from a monofocal IOL.  Glare and halos may affect your ability to drive at night.  Intermediate vision will probably be blurry, and you may need glasses for using a computer.  Hope that you don't develop macular problems later in life.  Advantages:  If all goes well, you may not need glasses for many tasks.
