cataract operation

cataract operation

Hi all, I am new member. I would need some help regarding my right eyes.

i am born in 1971, male.

in sept 2010, i was diagonised with cataract. to make sure thats is the only problem, he sent me to another doctor glaucoma specialist in his team. after checking, i was diagonised to have a glacoma as well.

anyway, 1 months later in end of october 2010, i have retinal detachment on my right eyes ( RD ). after the operation, the doctor told me that the operation will speed up the cataract progress.

1 year later, early november 2011, I have my cataract removed. because my left eyes has " - 6.5 degree ", he said he will adjust my right eyes from " - 11 degree down to around - 6 degree ". this is to make sure the brain does not get confuse.

the cataract operation went well, but after wait for a few more weeks, my doctor checked me up. at the moment, my right eyes - instead of original plan - 6 degree, now my right eyes is around - 12 degree. I asked the doctor, he said that because RD, their calculation is wrong.

so now, he give me 3 option.

1. because my right eyes already had 2 operation, i can just leave it as it is. don't touch it. don't do any operation. keep wearing the old glasses and old prescription. as at the moment, i can see almost 20/20 ( eventhough it is not 100 % clear ). do the operation in the old days, when i want to remove my left eyes cataract.

2. do the operation now. reduce the right eyes to - 6 degree as an original plan.

3. do the operation now. reduce the right eyes to almost 0 and wear a contact lens on the left eyes - 6 degree.  ( i don't think i will take this option because i might worry later day - if there is any infection because of the contact lense etc......

anyway, can you please advise whether i should take option 1 or 2 ?. the doctor said it is up to me as it is my decision. according to him, if i do another operation, it won't help my glaucome problem.

thanks in advance.

I would exchange the IOL in the right eye and aim for zero and use a contact lens in the left eye.  The risk of infection is very small if the contact lens is used properly. Another option is to have LASIK  in the left eye.

thanks Dr Ray for your reply.

I would like to know. If I have another operation with my situation, will this operation only " A COSMETIC SURGERY " or neccesary surgery ?.

what I mean by cosmetic surgery is it does not necessary to have. its only make me does not have to wear any glasses or wearing a thinner glasses without helping me in my current condition.

if it is necessary surgery, I will do it either option 2 or 3 but if it is only a cosmetic surgery, I can wait for later years - maybe another 10 years time when its needed too.

i am confusse and I am worry that my eyes won't be able to take anymore surgery.

thanks for your comment in advance.
