Your doctor would not have referred you to a retinal specialist for meibomian gland dysfunction.

Could be meibomian glands disfunction. You did not say whether it is the fluid within the eyeball or on the cornea. Could involve your retina if it is fluid inside the eyeball, but I have meibomian glands disfunction and cloudiness caused by the tear layer they deposit on my cornea.
Perhaps the tear layer produced by these glands do cloud your tear layers on the cornea. Such disfunction also causes dry-eye syndrome. Ask the opthalmologist.
