cnv

After having a vitrectomy for erm, I developed inflammation that did not resolve with several months of steroid drops. Now, about 8 months later I was told I have armd by my rs. I went for a 2nd opinion and was told it was cnv. Both agreed I should be treated with Avastin and I did get my 1st treatment. However, I am confused by the conflicting diagnoses. One rs says I will probably develop md in my other eye and the rs who says it is cvn says it probably will not develop in the other eye.I am very confused and am wondering if they are very similar.

Thank you

"wet" AMD is characterised by CNV and so, technically, both are right. The only other time CNV is really a factor apart from AMD is pathologcal myopia. Very rarely is it idiopathic as far as I can tell. So unless you are a high myope, it would be more than likely that the CNV is the result of AMD. Has your other RS said you DO NOT have AMD? It is often assumed and not stated.

They both effect the macula and are frequently found together.  I would prepare for the worst (amd in the other eye in the future) but hope for the best.  No one knows for sure - they are just opinions.  Who is to say which one is right.  Do everything in your power to protect the good eye from future macular degneration problems.
