combining mono lense with multi lense

Hi
I have had a mono lense put in my left eye several years ago and now (due to a new cataract) am looking at the option of a multi lense in my right. However all the specialists I have spoken to seem very much against the idea (however not saying they are not willing to do it). Instead suggesting I have the vision in my right put at a closer reading distance (with a mono lense) but still allowing for semi distance meaning I would need glasses for fine print but should be ok with day to day activites. I would love to speak to anyone that has taken either of these options in particular the multi lense in one eye and if it worked out for you, as neither of the specialists i have seen have ever placed a multi lense in a person that already has a mono lense. I appreciate there can be complications with multi lenses but still want to explore my options.
I don't mind if I need to wear glasses for either driving or reading computer screens or really fine print but at all costs i would love to be able to look at every day objects such as labels and letters without having to put glasses on whether this be with with multi or mono lenses.
I am a teacher and am constantly needing to look down at writing then up again at distance so this is VERY important to me
Hope to hear from you
thanks Troy

I have put in a secondary multifocal IOL over a standard IOL and a multifocal in the other eye.  This can work.
