comparative vision outcomes of keratoplasty

Have vision outcomes for DSEK/DSAEK improved to the point where the vision outcome is equivalent to corneal replacement?
I was diagnosed with Fuchs Dystrophy several years ago, but have postponed surgery as my BCVA has remained at 20/40, however, light sensitivity, pain, and crusty discharge have increased and people are distracted by the faces I make when trying to see or relieve my almost constant discomfort.  DSEK/DSAEK surgery rather than cornea replacement seem like better choices for me for a variety of reason but, when diagnosed, I was told the vision outcome is not as good as full cornea replacement.

Dear blazefinn,

The outcome can be quite good following DSEK/DSAEK even if it not exactly the same as it would be following a  corneal transplant, full thickness.  The time of visual recovery is much faster which makes the recovery process easier for patients.  I would discuss with your corneal specialist the best options for you depend upon your symptoms and the appearance of your eyes.
