contacts vs glasses

by marley89, Jul 24, 2008 05:29PM
Hello,

I am a contact wearer but do wear glasses at night to study and read. I just got a new prescription for contacts and they feel fine but my new glasses are too strong and give me a headache. Is this normal? Should the glasses require an adjustment period even if the contacts are fine? If so why?

The second question is; Does wearing a prescription that is slightly too strong and letting your eyes get used to it weaken the eyes thus requiring a stronger prescription next time?

Thanks for your help.

Dear Marley89,

Glasses may require a longer adjustment period than contact lenses due to the base curve or back surface of the lens, the thickness of the lens, type of lenses chosen, and the distance to the eye in the frame.  Try the new glasses for about one week.  If your symptoms persist, then you will want to see your eye doctor to have them checked.

The second question is one that we are often asked and do not think so.  We try to prescribe the least prescription that will make you see the best.
