cornea cells

cornea cells

I went in to see about having Lasik and was told that I have three areas of the cells of my cornea that have died out and to have the surgery could cause blindness. He then told me to come back in a year to have another test to see how my vision is then. Is this something that I need to worry about now, or can I wait a year?  Do you have any idea what this is called? It is just in my left eye and I wake up every morning with very blurred vision that gets better throughout the day.  I don't know which way to turn in this.
Thank you for any help!

If you did not see an ophthalmologist (Eye MD) then get an appointment to have an eye physician and surgeon do a comprehensive medical eye examamination to examine your cornea. If you saw an ophthalmologist get a second opinion from another ophthalmologist.

Most likely they saw bumps called guttatta on the back of your cornea. These occur where there are not enough cells to cover the back of the cornea. Many guttatta can indicate Fuchs' Dystrophy. Use the search feature on this page to look for "Fuch's Dystrophy" to read about this problem.  Many people have a small numbmer of guttatta but don't have or lead to Fuchs Dystrophy. You can also use an internet search engine to read more about eye or MedMD website. You can use Google Images and pull up a picture of guttatta.

Note Fuchs Dystrophy can cause morning blurriness of the vision that gets better during the day.
