corneal edema

corneal edema

I had a retinal detachment 4 months ago. They did a vitrectomy and the scleral buckle procedure.. for the last 4 days I've been feelling my eye dry or if I had something inside.. i went to the doctor yesterday and he said I may have a corneal edema and that I might need a corneal transplant.. Now my question is can I loose my eye due to this? i had a corneal transplant already when I was 4 years old. Is my eye gona be lazy after the 2nd transplant?

Thank You

It's not hard to tell if someone had corneal edema so your surgeon should be able to say yes you have it or no you don't

If you do have it it may clear over days, weeks or months. Having had a corneal transplant before means it likely will clear slower than if you had a untouched cornea.

Ask your surgeon about using Muro 128 drops and ointment to help clear the swelling.

It may not clear and you may need a new cornea HOWEVER there is a fabulous new operation called a DSEAK in which the cornea is left inplace and just the sick inner pump layer (endothelium) is stripped off and donated healthy endothelium is  put on the back of the cornea through a very small incision. The procedure is much safer and faster healing than a old time corneal transplant (penetrating keratoplasty).
