dark patches and sparkles in vision

Lately I've noticed dark patches in my vision that are noticable at times and unoticable at others. It almost looks like when you've seen a bright light and the afterimage stays in your vision for awhile.
I noticed one appear a week ago and it seems to be getting less noticable. It doesn't move around my vision and stays in the same area. I think only 1 eye is affected but I'm not sure.
I also sometimes see 'sparkles' of white or blue lights in my vision, and I have floaters (which I've always had)
What kind of doctor should I see?

I have exactly what you're talking about- I also have a LOT of floaters and I have seen the sparkles and the blue lights that you talked about.  And yes, the afterimage.  I have that now and it is technically a "blind spot"
I have nothing technically wrong with my eyes so I am being referred to a neurologist.
Did they ever find a reason for you?

I just saw your post, I'm sorry I didn't get to it earlier.

I've seen a lot of good doctors, and none have found anything to explain this. I continue to suffer from this probelm. Have you been told anything new by the doctor?
