detached retina

On a routine retinal exam today it was discovered today that I have a detached retina in my left eye. I had three tears repaired with a laser prior to this. My surgeon whom I have been seeing for two years (I had a detachment in the right eye in 2010 which required a victrectomy/endolaser/gas to repair) said he could fix the new detachment with a gas bubble which I had today and laser on Tuesday. Nothing was said about physical restrictions other sleeping with my head inclined about 40degrees. I was wondering how serious this may be and detachments routinely repaired in the office. I did not really experience any symptoms with this detachment  other than had times it felt as if my vision was a bit blurred although today I was seeing 20/25 in this eye. Thank you for your response

Thank you so much for your reply. It was about two years ago I went through the Gas/lasers and finally the surgery to repair the other eye. At that time my surgeon said there were no restrictions just do what I enjoy, that weightlifting would not affect the outcomes. He is a fine surgeon and well respected in our state and has published several times on retinal problems, but this time I am going to take it easy and try my best not to worry and do allot of praying. Thank you again Dr.Oyakawav

Any retinal detachment is serious. Certain ones can be fixed with a bubble and laser or cryo.  The same physical restrictions apply.  Please discuss with your surgeon.
