dilated pupil, shining iris by birth

my 23 month old son is having dilated pupils since birth. His iris shines too much & he is unable to open his eyes in the sun or towards light, however he sees everything with small opening of his eyes in such condition but in normal light or dim light he sees and recognise everything wisely.
when consulted pediatric opthalmologist they checked my baby and suggested regular checkup of glucoma & catract, they declared my baby's eyes as very rare one, they gave no medicines and told us to wait n watch.
i just want to know that is there any surgery/eye replacement possible this time or when my baby get young.
what precaution should i take for my baby

Seeing an ophthalmologist and making sure the child does not have congential cataracts, congential glaucoma or other internal eye problem is the way to start. That they did not find these is a good sign. Since it's rare and I don't know their working diagnosis I can give you no helpful information. Rely on your child's ophthalmologists to keep you informed.
