disc edema or pseudo papilledema in 9 yr old with hx of seizures?

My son just had an annual eye exam for school and discovered abnormal bilateral edema of optic nerve, my question is how urgent is it to see Dr. and should it be a Neurologist or Neuro Optham. who takes 2 to 3 months to get into?  She is questioning if it is Disc edema or Pseudo papilledema, MRI first?  Not sure what to do!  Please advise, My son is 9 years old and is seizure free for a year, although he has had on and off frontal headaches between his eyes.  He has 20/20 vision and is color blind.

Thank you in advance from a nervous parent1

Take him to see a pediatric ophthalmologist.  I would not get an MRI before seeing someone with the expertise to tell the difference between true optic disc edema and pseudo-papilledema.  About 99% of the kids I see for 'optic disc edema' who have already had MRIs etc never needed them in the first place.  Your pediatrician should know a good pediatric ophthalmologist in the region and be able to to get you an appointment within a few weeks by calling himself.
