discoloured sclera

by MumCH, Oct 01, 2007 10:03AM
My daughter is seven weeks old and has severe discolouration of the sclera in both eyes.  The discolouration is only on the parts of the sclera not visible when she is looking straight ahead - the discolouration is quite prominent when she turns her eyes.  I'm wondering if this is normal and in time will go away, or whether she has something wrong with her eyes, or whether it's an indication/symptom of a more sinister problem?

If she indeed has severe discoloration as you are describing - that is not normal.  Sometimes infants can have a slight bluish discoloration in the areas you describe which can be normal but if it darkly pigmented that's not normal at all.  Either way, I strongly suggest you take her to see your pediatrician who can then get her referred to a pediatric ophthalmologist.
