dislocated lenses -- options?

dislocated lenses -- options?

Hello!  I'm a 25 year old female. I was diagnosed with dislocated lenses when I was 4 years old. I wore extremely thick glasses until middle school when I began wearing gas permeable lenses. I also had surgery for strabismus on my right eye when I was 15. Last year my ophthamologist discovered that my gas perms were digging into my corneas. She said I can only wear soft contacts now (prescription is +12.75 in left eye and +9.50 in right eye) with reading glasses. Then last summer I started noticing floaters in both eyes.
I saw a vitreoretinal specialist and he told me that my vitreous was detaching. We did a vitrectomy, lensectomy, and IOL implant. So we started with my weaker eye (right) and the surgery seemed to go okay -- but a week later I still couldn't see -- he looked in my eye and discovered that the IOL had twisted -- and there was also some vitreous remaining. So a week later he went back in and repositioned the IOL and replaced the vitreous again.
The floaters in my left eye are getting worse and I am growing increasingly unhappy with my soft contact in my left eye. But of course I am scared to do surgery on my much stronger eye considering the problems we had with the right eye. I am an attorney, and need to be reading basically all day. I think about my eyes all of the time, and am nervous about it.
1.  What type of soft contacts work best for someone with an extremely high "plus" prescription?
2.  Could I try to wear gas perms again?  They just work so much better than soft contacts.
3.  Are there any glasses that will work for me?  They have to be so thick that they don't even seem to work!
4.  Is a vitreoretinal surgeon the best type of surgeon to perform an IOL insertion?
5.  Should I be worried about my IOL becoming dislocated?  I exercise approx. 1.5-2 hours per day.
6.  I may have Marfan Syndrome (although I don't really have any other symptoms) -- should I be concerned about how many eye surgeries I am having?
Thank you
Elizabeth

Dear stel0103,

Your questions are excellent and in view of the all of the above issues you have had, I would recommend that you seek the care of a few eyeMD’s to get all of your questions answered.
