double vision in left eye

by growingapynes, Apr 13, 2009 10:27PM
I have slight double vision in left eye. I had LASIK 8 years ago.  I went to the optometrist a year ago and it confirmed i had slight double vision.  After many tests and 3 doctors later, i was told that i could have surgery but it may not correct the problem. What do i do now? I went to a eye doctor that "specialized" in eye problems. it has been almost a year and i am feeling a difference-slight pressure, more drying and just an "irritability".  my double vision hasn't declined, but i am concerned as to what to do next and what other tests or blood work i may need.
I am 33 years old and in good health.
thank you for your advice in advance

Assuming the 3 "doctors" you saw were real Eye MD physician-ophthalmologists and they all told you that you needed surgery you can either have the surgery which you most likely need and may correct the problem or live with it.  You will need to make the decision. See the strabismus Eye MD for the surgery.

To: growingapynes,
Be careful and don't trust these eye quacks whole heartedly,  After a lazy eye surgery I ended "WITH PERMANENT DOUBLE VISION"  Sorry this situation just irritates me.....
I've seen 4 other eye doctors ( two of them never heard of strabismus, ambloipyia, diplopia, etc ) and the fourth one told me most likely it'll be miss and miss, there's a small chance that my eye could be "pointed" in the same direction as the good eye, mind you, pointed means the bad eye won't move nor follow the good eye....
I've resorted to eyeglass patching, some black tape can do wonders......
I do have an appt at Yale, I live close enough, we'll see what comes out of it...
Good luck....

Permanent double vision is a common risk factor in both pediatric and adult eye muscle surgery. The older a person is when the eye muscle surgery is done the more common is the problem
