double vision-shooting sports

when competing in what is called "high power' shooting, I start to get a double image that becomes more pronounced and more pervalelent as the match continues.
these are open sight rifles (peep rear sight and post front sight) which are about 26" apart and the target is at 200 yds.
the problem is the front post, I'll start out OK but by the third position (approx 30 rounds) I'll get a hazy image of the front poost about a quarter of an inch above the actual top of the post.
As we progress into the last position (prone slow fire) the image becomes darker to the point where I can't tell the actual from the image and as a result the point of impact is affected.
CLosing the eyes or looking at a solid object and then back to the sights helps sometimes, but is not a cure all.
I've gone the route of getting special glasses with the center moved to the upper left of the right eye and diopters adjusted to see if that helps...to no real improvement.
Anything you can suggest that i try to correct this problem?
  Thanks

First I would recommend a good refraction to detect any underlying astigmatism or curve of your cornea.  You may also have an underlying eye muscle imbalance and this should be checked.  A comprehensive ophthalmologist should be able to detect this, if not you can try to see a pediatric ophthalmologist.  This would be a start.   Good luck.
