double vision

by don_kedik, Oct 26, 2009 02:44PM
let me start from the begining
about early june i had a problem where my top lip used to go tingly and my left arm went dead this lasted for about four weeks, by the time i saw my own doctor the above issues had ceased but now i have double vision when looking everywhere apart from when i look right, i have normal vision.
my doctor has referred me for a ct scan but im wondering if i sould see a eye specialist about my optical nerve as i have read that i may have cranial nerve damage.
please leave any suggestions

You should see an Eye-MD who specializes in strabismus.  You can find one near you by going to www.aapos.org and using the doctor locator.  The fact that you are having several distinct neurological symptoms that must be originating in different parts of your brain raises the suspicion for multiple sclerosis.  This is best assessed with an MRI, not a CT scan.  You need to make swifter progress - work hard to be seen by the Eye-MD this week and let your primary doctor know what ophthalmologist you will see and when.  Be sure to take your primary doc's business card, or at least his phone and FAX numbers, with you to the Eye-MD visit.  This will greatly facilitate communication between the two doctors.
