double vision

Hello i am a 29 year old male. I have had double vision since i was around 10 years old. I have seen a doctor about this then who told my mom that i made made myself do this and that i would need a psychologists to correct this. Which at that age i did know how to make myself see double vision as weird as this may sound. but the cause of it being permamnent or when i actually realized this was not a game i cant recall. But my vision problem goes like this.  Either eye closed and and with one open i can see fine ...both both eyes open focusing on one thing in front of me and things around that object are in double vision... For example if i were to go swimming and put on swimming goggles everything in the water would be double. when im driving in the car and i focus on something even on the windsheild then everything is double.. Please someone advise me
