elevated optic nerve in right eye

by machickie, Feb 16, 2009 05:30PM
Recently I went to have an eye exam and the Dr. said my right eye optic nerve was elevated.  I had to go to my Primary Care Dr. to get referral for Specialist.  After seeing Specialist and testing of the nerves in both eyes they now are referring me to another Specialist which is a retinal eye Specialist.  I keep asking what does this all mean and all they tell me is I need to see another Specialist.  My question is this:  I have had a small stroke 2 years ago and than 6 months later I had a heart attack.  I have had stents in my arteries to me heart twice.  I recently had to have a biventricular pacemaker.  Could my heart attack and stroke have caused the optic nerve to be elevated?  I currently take Pletal (have hardening of the arteries) and Plavix because of the heart.  I am 70 years old and really have no side affects.  What can all this mean?  They did say it's not glaucoma.  What can they do about an elevated optic nerve?  No one is giving me any answers.  What to expect, what comes next etc.  Thank you

There are many causes from something benign such as optic nerve drusen,  or something much more serious such as a orbital tumor.

You should see a neuro-ophthalmologist.

Thank you.  My Optometrist has referred me to a Opthalmologistas you suggested.  After seeing him I will let you know what they have found.  Hopefully nothing serious.
