episodic diplopia

Is it normal to experience occasional episodes of diplopia that last around 1 minute? I have had 1-3 episodes a year for the last 10 years.  I have to stop what I'm doing when they happen but can then resume normal activity afterwards.  I think that they may be brought on when I lose focus on a moving object - is this normal?

Dear jem67,

Double vision that lasts about one minute in duration can represent a serious issue such as a transient ischemic attack or may just the breakdown an oculomotor disturbance.  I would recommend that you seek the care of an eyeMD.
