exercises to avoid w pvd

I am a 54 year old male and I am in very good health. I was just diagnosed with PVD today. Just prior to this I was using an inversion table, the apparatus that you lie on and tilt backward until nearly upside down. It decompresses the spine but I felt an immense amount of pressure in my head, face and eyes. After feeling this pressure it was too uncomfortable so I only used it three times for around 4-5 minutes each time. Could this have caused my PVD? I am concerned about co-workers who are still using it who are my age and may have more risk factors. Also, what exercises should I avoid in hopes of staving off more PVD or even worse, retina tear and detachment? I ride long (145klm) mountain bike rides; for instance to the summit of Mt Saint Helen's and train by running bleachers at a local stadium. The health and vitality I feel through my exercise regiment has made me feel like I've discovered a "fountain of youth" and I've become addicted to it. What do I need to avoid now?

I went through PVD in my left eye 5 years ago that resulted in serial detachments and unfortunately I did not have a good outcome visually.  About three months ago I started having symptoms in my left eye and was terrified of another series of detachments and perhaps being blind for all intents and purposes.  I also love intensive exercise although I never tried the inversion table.  Anyway, I went to two retinal docs and asked what I could do to forestall a detachment and of course I asked about the exercise.  They both told me that it would make no difference if I exercised or not however I should avoid boxing.  Haha apparently this is a retinal doc joke because they both said it.  Anyway, I stopped exercising because I was terrified and I went and got a retinal exam once a week until after three weeks my vitreous detached completely and pulled two tears in my retina resulting in the retina detaching.  I had vitrectomy and 360 laser and gas bubble.  What I am telling you is that I don't think it matters what you do as far as exercise goes.  IMO if your vitreous is going to tear your retina there is nothing you can do about it or to prevent it.  You just need to have a good surgeon ready to do a repair ASAP.  Best of luck to you.
