eye pain 20 years after catract

Hi,
My mom is 50 yrs old,had a cataract surgery 20 years  back intraocular lens implant done.after that no problem.
she started feeling of having something in her eyes once in a while since last 3-4 years but for last 8-10 days its constant.vision is ok. No eye tearing or eye discharge. saw an opthalmologist who said its due to dryness and she might need laser for that. my ques are
1.has her cataract related to that though she is not having any vision problem only pain.
2. is laser is the only option for her eye for the dryness? cant we use medication?

2 different things.  Dryness is not related to membrane.  Likely she has a membrane developing behind the lens that was implanted (relatively common and not a big deal).  The laser should help clear her vision a bit assuming it is a bit blurry from the membrane.  The laser will do nothing to treat her dry eyes.

thanx a lot  for your feedback Dr.Vosoghi, so even in case if a membrane is there for which they r suggesting laser.....is it possible that without any vision problem she might have a membrane on the retina or vitreous (actually i hvnt been with my mom at the opthal office
but that what she is saying that they they say there is also membrane with dryness and i am confused how come a membrane can not cause vision  problem as i mentioned she only has complain of eye pain

I don't understand what kind of laser treats dry eyes.  Nothing that I am aware of.  Treatment depends on the cause of the dry eye (oil deficiency, tear deficiency, or abnormal mucous layer).  Have her see a cornea or dry eye specialist and recommend appropriate treatment.  Cataract is not directly related to the dry eye symptoms.
