eye pain in the mornings

Each morning I have severe pain in my eyes.  They are very light sensitive and the pain lasts for about 5 minutes until my vision is clear and the pain stops.  It is usually my right eye and both eyes most of the time.

You probably have severe dry eyes which dry out worse when you sleep.  You might sleep with your eyes partially open or have a ceiling fan on while sleeping or stay up late on the computer - all of which make the eyes very tired and sore and dry.  Could also be a more serious problem like keratitis or uveitis or even glaucoma.  See an ophthalmologist right away and in the meantime use artificial tears every hour or so and a lubricant like genteal gel at bedtime.
