eye spasm and strain

I had eye spasms in my lower right lid two weeks ago, followed by blurred vision.  The eye spasms have stopped but I now have a constant headache behind the same eye (pain reliever isn't helping).  My eye also feels like it is straining, even when I close my eye it seems like it is trying to focus.  I had an MRI done to make sure it wasn't a tumor and the results were negative.  Any ideas?  My family doctor wants me to see a neurologist.  Should I be seeing an opthomologist instead?

Yes, you need to an exam by an Ophthalmologist Eye MD physician. Find one at www.aao.org or ask your GP for a referral. Because of the nature of your complaint seeing the Eye MD before the neurologist is the best answer.
