eye toxoplasmosis

Dear Doctor, my daughter has scars in her eyes due to toxoplasmosis. She is 29 years old  and before one year the doctor tell us about these inactive scars (maybe congenital). She didn't know anything about them and she never had any problem (vision problem or reactivation). Now she wants to become pregnant but she is scared. Is there a correlation between pregancy and reactivation of these scars? Is there a problem if she has cesarean? And what about other surgeries in the future... I am so anxious...

Please have her see an ophthalmologist in person and discuss the pregnancy questions in person with her OB/GYN doctor.  Please understand I am  speaking in very general terms and these comments should not be taken as directions or advise for her specific case since I am not her doctor.  In general, toxoplasmosis can be transferred to the fetus when the pregnant mother catches her first acute case of toxoplasmosis infection (while pregant.)  You would not expect a grown woman with old longstanding toxoplasmosis scars to transfer it to the fetus but there are always different situations, so again there are no 100% guranantees.   It is important for her to talk with her own OB/GYN.  Reactivation of the scars can occur at any time even if not pregnant, but if no problems so far, hopefully she will remain OK.

Thank you so much for your advice. One more question...all these scars are going to reactivate? Is there a possibility for no reactivation...????

Thank you in advance....
