eye trouble

  Hi,
I'm a type II diabetic , not on any meds, just control with diet and exercise.  I follow a low carb diet and my bg's range from 85 - 135 every day.
I have had some blurriness in my vision. I went to the eye doc and got new glasses.  Still had trouble so I went to the ophtholmologist.  He dilated my eyes and assured me I had no diabetic retinopathy or any other problem that he could see.
He said my prescription had changed a small bit and suggested I needed bifocals.  I got the graduated type of invisible bifocals and am dismayed to discover I still have the blurry problem.  It isn't all the time, it's off and on.
Any suggestions? What could be causing this when my bg's are in a good range and the ophth. says there are no diabetic complications going on?
     Thanks, Meenie

It is good to hear that you are doing well at controlling your blood sugars.  Fluctuating blood sugars can cause the symptoms that you are describing.  In general, blurred vision is more likely to occur with elevated blood sugars however the flucuation in sugars may also cause this.  So even if you have blood sugars in a good range, are they fluctuating alot?  Do you check your sugars several times a day.  It may be that your sugars are high in the AM but normal the rest of the day.  I would recommend closer monitoring of your blood sugars, since the ophthalmologist has ruled out other problems with respect to your eyes.  A blood sugar log is sometimes helpful.  See your internist about this.  If your blurred vision was a glasses problem, the vision would be blurry every time you wear them.  I suspect this is related to your blood sugars.  Good luck.
