eyes create film against contact lens

by mabv, Mar 30, 2009 06:33AM
My daughter is 16 years old, started having myopia at age 7 with a progression of (-1) approx per year. She has been wearing acuvue2 contact lenses for the past three years. Her myopia is now at (-7.75, -7.5). For the past year her contacts have made her eyes produce a "film" thru which she can't see in late afternoon up until the evening. She will then hidrate her eyes with drops and the film is temporarily removed. The past six months her eyes have been producing this annoying film during the day as well, and we are concerned about it. We have her eyes checked every year. A month ago she had conjunctivitis in one eye and took drops and eye creams as prescribed by the ophtalmologist (since the cause was unknown the doctor prescribed medicine anti bacterial, anti viral and anti allergic). The ophtalmologist said she could wear contacts after three weeks. She has tried to put the contacts back on, but she says her eyes "reject" the lenses by producing the film again. She has tried the acuvue2 lenses, and recently the acuvue oasys contacts. She resents wearing glasses and would really like to find appropriate contact lenses. Could you explain why her eyes reject the contacts, why do they produce the film, which type of contact lens should she try? Thank you in advance for the information. Mabv

I can not tell without an exam.  See your ophthalmologist.

Could be protein residue. Had similar problems when I was her age. Really annoying. Turned cloudy after few hours. I gave up and wore glasses. I know its not cool wearing thick glasses when you are at that age. She just had to clean and hydrate her eyes more often. The good news in about 5 years time she might be able to go for lasik to correct her myopia.
