floaters and flashes

by crazycow, Sep 20, 2009 12:45PM
Hello there,

Just wondering, I have recently been seeing lots more floaters and ive been getting some very quick little flashes. The flashes usially happen when I move my eyes from one direction to another. Its usually when I look at a light and and move my head around the light will move too and make a streak in my vision. Ive been  to see an optician who said he cant see anything but should I go to an opthalmologist?
Could it be vitreous detachment? My eyes are aching slightly. Im only 22 so im hoping its not something too serious. I have a lot of shoulder and neck tension which causes headaches and I also suffer with anxity.

Thanks

Dear Crazycow,

I would recommend that you seek the care of an eyeMD and have a complete eye examination.  It does sound as if you might have vitreous detachment and you should be checked for retinal tears.

could this type of flashing be caused by neurological problems, I have a really bad fear of strokes.

Thanks again
