fovea damage

fovea damage

My friend has an eye injury that effected his fovea.  The dr. says that there is a vertical scar on the fovea.  Can this be repaired to fix his vision or is it permanent damage?  Do surgeons operate on this part of the retina?

If there is just a scar, without inflammation, fluid or neovascularization it is generally not able to be helped. Sometimes the fovea is okay but there is a membrane like material over the fovea (epimacular membrane) and that can sometimes be surgically stripped off. Only an exam of  the eye by an Eye MD ophthalmologist will be able to tell what can be done, if anything.
