growth near optic nerve

My eye doctor said that I have a growth of some sort very close to my optic nerve. what could that be? she sent me to the specialist to check, but while I wait I was wondering what it could possible be. The eye with the growth also needs +2.50 lens to correct the vision, but since the other eye has perfect vision I can't wear glasses because it would cause double vision. I was diagnosed with a lazy eye when I was little but nothing was ever found near the nerve. The reason I went to the doctor was because my vision was getting worse and I had more painful migraines then before. I'm 29 years old and pretty good health other then that.
