histoplasmosis choridrentinitis

How common is histoplasmosis choridrentinitis?  I 've been told the most common type affects the periphery of the eye, but this is located in the center and has severly affected the vision of my 13 year old daughter.  Will her vision improve with steroids or is the damage permanent??
Thanks!

It is not an uncommon condition and tends to affect those who live along the Mississippi River valley.  If it only affects the retinal periphery, many people may not notice this and could go undetected until they present for a routine exam.  Unfortunately, your daughter has been affected in a critical area.  She certainly should be seeing an experienced retina specialist.  She may be a candidate for laser or surgical removal of the blood vessel growth.  Steroid therapy may or may not work.  Sometimes there is spontaneous improvement.  Good luck
