histoplasmosis

Hi Dr Hagen

I am maybe moving to Missouri and have two questions.

1) How big of a concern is histoplasmosis in the state? Are there any ways to avoid it?

2) Do you happen to know the name of a good neuro-opthalmologist in Columbia?

my husband is from TN and says he doesn't know anyone with histo ... but I read that up to 90% of of people in he "belt" have it.

what percentage of those, approximately, would go on to develop eye complications??

You can get exposed to histo in any state but its highest in Midwest. No there is nothing you can do. Even among people that raise chickens the incidence is low.

In Columbia I believe there is only on neuro-ophthalmologist and he is at the Unversity of Missouri Medical School Mason Eye Insitute.
