keratoconus S/P RK

by mochuelo, Aug 08, 2008 06:57PM
I have ben diagnosed with keratoconus. In the year 1986 I had an RK to correct a pronounced astigmatism, for few years my vision was ok, but in the last 8 years of my life the changes are very evident. Unable to wear hard lenses I Attempted a consultation for a Lasik susgery and I found out about my keratoconus and also that Intacts were not an option because of the scaring process taking place in the eyes secondary to the RK. As my vision worsens I like to know of other options different than corneal transplant that would be consides safe... thanks

Your options are basically glasses, corneal transplant or sometimes a specially designed custom contact lens.  At this stage I would speak with a corneal surgeon and if you are not yet a candidate for surgery, you could consider a referral to a doctor who specialized in contacts for keratoconus patient.  I suspect a corneal transplant may be  in your future someday.
