Lattice degeneration is an inherited weakness in the peripheral retina.  Retinal detachments are more common in people with lattice degenration.  It your case it is probably wise to have laser treatment to any areas of lattice degeneration in your other eye before any cataract surgery.  This would then theoretically keep your risk of retinal detachment lower.  I do not know that any numbers have been determined for your risk but it is not insignificant in your other eye if you undergo cataract surgery.
