lazy eye

My son is 5 1/2 and he has an lazy eye. We have been treating it for the last 2 yrs and recently we went to a eye specialist and have finally received results.  His eye sight was 2400.  We were told to patch his good eye for 12 hrs a day which we did and the eyesight will come back.  Now his eyesight is 20/25. and we patch for 8 hrs a day.  But the eye is still crossing in.  Do you think the surgery is a good idea to correct the muscle.  In order for it to be in the correct place of his eye.  I want to make sure we are on the right track.  Also once we stop patching will the eyesight remain good.

1) It is correct to work on vision improvement before surgery so that the eyes will have a better chance of working together and staying straight after the surgery.
2) Surgery is the correct treatment to straighten the eye.
3) The lazy eye will need to be watched carefully to monitor for vision regression but the good news is once the eye has achieved good vision, it will always be capable of that vision if patched or used regularly.

You are on track. Congratulations on your hard work to get your son's vision to this point!
