leber's congenital amaurosis

by phunter, Aug 21, 2009 10:46AM
I have a friend with Leber's born blind.he developed cataracts and  light perception until recently. he has almost none now. The last exam detected coloboma and that his retinas have died due to the cataracts. He suffers from the worst eye pain. so severe!
Is there any thing that can be done to relive the eye pain?

Cataracts do not cause the retina to die. Leber's congential amaurosis is the first eye disease that has been show to be helped by gene therapy (England and USA). He may be too far gone for this to help.

He needs to see an Eye MD, ideally a retina specialist. Find one near him at www.aao.org

If the eye is blind the therapy may be directed towards pain relief and saving the other eye.
