lens implants removed

lens implants removed

I am 42, and had intra-ocular lens implants put in 8 months ago, that were causing me lots of problems, (extreme light sensitivity, pain etc.)  so I had them removed about a month and a half ago, one eye at a time. My left eye has healed very well, with no apparent complications.  I am even able to wear a contact lens in that eye for a few hours a day.  However, my right eye has never fully healed and I have a swollen cornea, which my Opthamolgist believes this was due to the two surgeries (one to put in- and one to remove) the implant, and my vision is HORRIBLE in that eye, and continues to be very blurry, foggy, light-sensitive---very similiar to those with "Fuch's dystrophy."   He believes that the two surgeries have caused edothelial cell loss. My doctor has recommended I see a cornea specialist to determine if I need a type of corneal transplant called DSAEK. (I have an appointment.)  In the meantime, I wanted to know if wearing my contact on my right eye (with all the problems) would help my vision, or could this further cause damage to my cornea, or worsen my chances to recieve the transplant surgery?  I have read that a few patients with Fuch's have worn a soft contact to help diminish the swelling (?) and I am tempted, but now that I now how incredibly fragile the eye is, am hesitant because I REALLY DO NOT want to take any chances that this could hurt my cornea further, or even possibly make me ineligible for the DSAEK surgery.  I would really appreciate any sound medical advice while I am waiting  for my appointment to see the cornea specialist, (and even then I am told they would not do any type of cornea transplant surgery for 6 months.)  I would like to wear my contact for improved vision if this is considered safe.  PLEASE help me.  God Bless.

Leave the contact out of the cloudy eye. Be very grateful that DSEAK is now available. Great operation, much much more safe than corneal transplant. Be sure to ask cornea surgeon how many he/she has done and results. If less than 5 might go to a more experieinced corneal surgeon

I also had an IOL exchanged and relaxing incisions in my right eye and the cornea also swelled up.  My Dr. had me use B&L Muro 128 for a few days, which reduced the swelling.

Muro 128 and time will only work if the cornea is only mildly or moderately damaged. It will not work in severe cases and end stage Fuchs
